Happy 1st birthday !!!!!

365 days ago we welcomed the first of our twins our baby boy born 14 weeks premature, weighing 2 pounds 8 oz, a few minutes later we welcomed our baby girl weighing 1 pound 11 oz. Once they were out in the world we got a quick glimpse at them and they were whisked away into the arms of their angles, the nicu staff. I was terrified. The following Sunday I was discharged from the hospital only to return everyday to see my babies grow . As the weeks went by the babies made many strides, they graduated off the ventilators, removed Iv's and started gaining weight slowly but surly. As the weeks turned into months it finally was time to bring our baby boy home, then on day 179 Ellie came home. Ellie returned to the hospital twice and still has many health challenges...but she is a fighter! We are so grateful for the cute little people our babies have become...Evan my blue eyed prince who has an adorable laugh, he melts my heart...Evan loves to eat, some of his favorites include apples and blueberries, oatmeal with pears and pineapple with ham. Evan now tops the scale at nearly 20 pounds and has overcome most of his health problems related to his prematurity. Ellie is the quiet observer, she is very content and happy most of the time...she knows what she likes and does not like and she will let you know!..She is so sweet and cuddly. Ellie still remains on oxygen and has other health problems but we pray she will over come them in time. We are very excited to celebrate their 1st birthday and can hardly believe the toddler stage is just around the corner Yikes!!!!

The last twelve months these babies have taught me strength, humility and compassion and I have learned more about the human body then I ever cared to know :) We have discovered true friendships, lost others and made new amazing friends. We still remain cautious of illness so most of the last months have been spent inside hiding from germs. We look forward to the months and years ahead and hope that the future holds wonderful, happy times for our family. We will always be incredibly grateful to the NICU staff and will never forget the moments that were spent in their care. I will always be thankful for the help and encouragement from my mother over the last year, she is an amazing mother and grandmother we are so lucky to have her!Thank you all . Happy 1st birthday Evan and Ellie!!!!!!! Love you Mom, Dad and Emma.

Happy Birthday!! It is so amazing and precious to see the twins on their first birthday! Didn't this day seem so far off when you were in the NICU? You did it! Two little fighters. They are going to do so great and I can't wait to see what little rascals they are when they are two!
